Boku dake ga inai machi had quite an Impression on me when it aired, you can read the impressions of first episode here – Boku dake ga Inai Machi – First Impressions
To be honest i even mentioned that this Anime can become the hype of 2016 and now it looks like my hunch was right. Its been quite a while since i wrote impression on any episodes regarding the series because reviewing every episode is tough thing moreover i plan to review it in one go. So there are total four episodes aired till now after episode one and the series has revealed some pretty major events and some there are some interesting twists. So we will discuss here each and every one of them here.
Boku dake ga Inai Machi Episode 2-5 Review
In the fist episode we saw that the Main character’s mother is killed by antagonist whose identity is still a mystery and Main character (MC) is suspected for his mother’s murder but in process of running away our MC is send back in time back to the year when he was elementary school and his classmate “Hinazuki Kayo” disappeared but later found dead. Now from the episode 2 itself we see that MC tries his best to change the history by saving his classmate.
In episode 2-4 we see the desperate efforts of Main character to save his classmates Hinazuki Kayo. But he is kid so he can’t take any big steps to save her from death so he try to do as much as he can in order to save her. Meanwhile we also see how terrible past “Hinazuki Kayo” had, she was victim of child abuse and her mother use to assault her and torture her daily. Which also gives you a brief intuition that her mother is behind kayo’s death. Also main character also fears that her mother might kill her someday so we see his desperate efforts to do something to save Kayo, He even establishes good relationship with her and just when we assume that everything is going in right direction we see that Hinazuki Kayo still dies.
During the episode 5 “Satoru” our main character hears the news that Hinazuki Kayo went missing so in order to search for her, he visits her home where he see’s Kayo’s mother throwing out the trash outside and inside that trash he notices that there are hand glows that Hinazuki used to wear are smeared in blood.

At that time Satoru becomes convinced that Hinazuki Kayo is dead, he suffers from trauma right away and then notices that he is back from the past to his present time. During this time we discover a certain thing about Satoru’s time traveling power and that is, it can only be activated once he faces a great trauma.
What i meant is once he suffers trauma he can go back in time and in a similar way he can come back. In other words trauma is necessary for his power to activate. We still haven’t seen Satoru controlling his power according to his will or not even a single hint is given about how satoru can control his power. OK so now that he is back in his current timeline we see that Satoru is still in process of running away from police and ask the Manager from the place he work for his help. But he soon notices that Manager is just luring him so that he can hand him over to the police.
So our MC runs away and on the way he finds Airi. Apparently she is the only person who believes that he didn’t killed his mother. She helps Satoru to get away from the police but soon gets caught up in the incident since the Antagonist of the story has set his eyes on her. While she is at home to get satoru a pair of clothes to change, The antagonist sets fire to her house and she gets trapped in it and that’s where the episode ends.
I forgot to mention that during the time he spent at Airi’s home he starts investigating about the real culprit and also notice that the date of Hinazuki kayo’s death is changed because of satoru trying to change the past. Because of which he becomes convinced that he can save Hinazuki’s life once he go back in time. But as i said earlier that satoru can’t control hispower, so for now he can’t do anything about it, He himself is not aware that he has this power. Moreover Airi notices that Manager betrays satoru and punches him right in the face! and even breaks his cellphone, i absolutely loved that part!
Wrapping up the review
This Anime despite having a supernatural part in it that supernatural part doesn’t completely overshadows the realism in the Anime in fact it elevates the the quality and emotions the Anime delivers. Also the pacing of episode is also great. The twist and turns this Anime has is also great, even though i have binge read the Manga. My excitement, thrill and curiousness always remains at highest level whenever i watch the Anime. And it leaves you unpredictable. Though in episode 5 nothing great happened but the episode was great help in building the further plot of the series. Also the cliffhanger at the end was great too, which leaves me wanting for more. Although it does leave you thinking what will happen to Airi now that she is caught up in this incident? and how much big her role will be in this entire series? This is a mystery Anime that’s getting darker and darker and impossible to predict. One more thing is Boku dake ga inai Machi Manga’s final volume will be released in march so i guess Anime will or can cover the entire series if they want to do it.
