Gintama – Why you should watch this series?

Gintama has a cult fan following different than One Piece, Naruto, Bleach and DBZ. Although there are numerous reason for this but it’s just that you can’t actually point out one single reason. Here we are not going to discuss that, but instead we are going to see the actual reason of this cult fan following.

Life isn’t easy in feudal Japan… especially since the aliens landed and conquered everything! Oh sure, the new health care is great, but the public ban on the use of swords has left a lot of defeated samurai with a difficult decision to make concerning their future career paths! This is especially true if, as in the case of Gintoki Sakata, they’re not particularly inclined towards holding a day job, which is why Gintoki’s opted for the freelance route, taking any job that’s offered to him as long as the financial remuneration sounds right. Unfortunately, in a brave new world filled with stray bug-eyed monsters, upwardly mobile Yakuza and overly ambitious E.T. entrepreneurs, those jobs usually don’t pay as well as they should for the pain, suffering and indignities endured!

Gintama Review

Gintama – Characters

If you read the above synopsis, you will get a feel the Anime tries to give you some serious vibes but that’s not actually true, instead it’s just screwing around with your mind. Well whatever it may be, but whoever will read the above synopsis will have a similar feeling and when you will start watching the Anime you will know the Anime is similar to that feeling.

Gintama has a quite unique yet the most common setting a person can ever see. What i mean is it’s a typical cliche with “What happens if?” element. Most probably the author and creator of this series must be thinking :-

“What will happen if i made Anime on Feudal era and show it that the earth has been conquered by some weird looking colorful aliens with lots of comedy and wrap a serious story around it?”

Well guys, Basically this is what Gintama really is. Gintama focuses largely on the comedy part that has a combination of various humor. It does have some serious parts and some badass parts but they are limited to certain extent but I’ll have to admit that, it hits you right in feels when it comes to serious, emotional and badass part. Although these moments or episodes filled with epicness, badassness and seriousness prevails for a short amount of time it does manage to give you something that you can’t forget so easily. It brings out every single emotions from your heart, Whether it is anger, tears, excitement or laughter.

Most of the people skip this series because of huge amount of episodes that majority of time focuses on comedy part with nothing new happening in it. But trust me the series is worth a wait, because lot of major things happen later especially the second series which was launched last year, has major things! And the series is finally getting on some serious story but if you consider the overall Anime episodes that has released till last week, except for some serious arcs and the shogun assassination arc the Anime has no story-line at all and the entire series is filled with randomness. The real story-line of the series is getting revealed slowly.

Comedy equals to randomness

As i mentioned earlier Gintama is Anime which focuses more on comedy but the comedy is so random that even if you skip 2 or 3 episode or an entire 10 to 15 episode it would be OK to watch the series because none of the episode is related or based on earlier episodes. But this is the thing which makes Gintama best when it comes to comedy. Majority of people who give votes for best comedy Anime, votes for Gintama because of which series sometimes end up coming on #1 ranking or #2 ranking. Although it’s common thing to define Gintama’s comedy as a random factor. But according to me it’s more like a freestyle.

What i mean is – Although the author limits the humor to certain extent, the people who read the Manga and watch the Anime would certainly have a hard time grasping the limitations. And i have to admit that i am personally one of them. I personally think that author is using his freedom to create Manga “however he wants,” at his 100% that’s because he is not only creating random and funny thing he is using the characters to their maximum which even includes the side-characters that most of the  Mangakas cast away no matter if the arc is funny or serious and emotional. It’s like the author is saying through the Manga itself :-

“It’s my Manga and i am free to do whatever i want!”

Moreover i also think that author has great sense of humor, because through his work we can see that he can almost utilize any situation to it’s maximum level to create a best comedy scene. And as i mentioned he is utilizing his freedom to create Manga at his fullest he doesn’t seem to limit himself in terms of comedy to one particular level, he excels that to the next level by trolling other Anime as if he doesn’t care in the slightest about the thing called “Copyrights” because of which Gintama has became one of my favorite Anime series ever!

Epic fight emotions and moral values

While we say that comedy is one of the factor which makes Gintama a best series but when it comes to epic fight scenes, emotional scenes and moral values then Gintama is no less either. Instead the series in one big player when it comes to these type of scenes. The Anime series who focuses largely on comedy and excels in that field it’s also capable of making the viewers cry with handful of emotional scenes that come in between and moreover it can also make you shiver with excitement by utilizing the epic fight scenes.

Sakata Gintoki
Sakata Gintoki

Gintama is also one of the best Anime when it comes to moral values. Majority of the quotes said by the Main character “Sakata Gintoki” is famous and live in the hearts of the people who have watched the series or read the Manga. Each sentence has something that can teach you a lot of things. And i personally think that Gintama is greater than One Piece or any other big shot Anime series when it comes to moral values.

Wrapping it up

I have said whatever i wanted to say about Gintama. Now i just hope that, i can at least get one person to be the Gintama fan. The Anime is fulfilling for me in every way and there is no disappointment regarding the series. All i can say now is – “If you haven’t watch this series yet, Go watch it because you’re missing something great!”
