Yowamushi pedal was the Anime that encouraged majority of people to start road race cycling, Just like One Punch Man encouraged people to start excising. And it’s also one of the sports Anime that has the place in my top 10 list. Now we just got the news that the Anime is coming to life with it’s very first “Road race cycling team.” And we have gathered a pretty fair amount of information regarding the topic that we would like to discuss here.
Yowamushi pedal official cycling team
Watanabe wataru, the author and the creator of the Manga series Yowamushi Pedal and a big time road race cycling fan officially formed a road race cycling team called Yowamushi pedal cyclo cross team in the year 2014. This year the team has announced the the it will change it’s name from Yowamushi pedal cyclo cross to Yowamushi pedal cycling team and will focus more on road race!
The team will compete in J Elite category which is the second highest, and will further plan on improving so they can compete in Tokyo Olympics. Watanabe wataru explained that he wants a team that kids will long for and team which kids would join. He wants the activists, kids and people to take interest in the sport and want a team that would leave spectators thinking, “I would like to try racing too!” Watanabe Wataru will play the role of supervisor in the team.
The team will first compete in”Utsunomiya criterium” on March 20 and will have race schedule of about 30 per year and will be using Kuota KOM bikes a preferred frame by Yukinari in Yowamushi pedal. The team includes Karami Miyoko who participated in 2004 summer Olympics and has experience in Italian national road racing team and he will also be the coach of the team. Maeda Kohei a cyclo cross racer and a mountain biker. Oda Hijiri who ranks in highest category of cyclo cross racing.
Otaku Sakamichi Onoda has just entered high school and plans to join the anime club. In middle school, Onoda didn’t have any friends with whom he could talk about anime, games, Akihabara and other otaku things, and he is hoping he can make such friends in the anime club, but he finds out it’s been disbanded. In order to reestablish the club he tries to find 4 other people who would like to join.
Since he was a little boy, Onoda has ridden his mamachari—a bulky bicycle with a step-through frame mainly used for short rides, such as for casual fun or to pick up groceries—to go to Akihabara every week to check out or buy otaku things. Fellow freshman Shunsuke Imaizumi and bicyclist, while training, notices a boy (Onoda) riding his mamchari up a steep road.
Freshman and road racing cyclist, Shokichi Naruko visits Akihabara to get some Gundam plastic models for his younger brothers and meets Onoda who catches his attention because of the his cycling skill on the mamachari and later find out they go to the same school. Later on, both Naruko and Imaizumi try to convince him to join the bicycle racing club, but will he?

Yowamushi pedal is the Anime that everyone got pumped up, while some of the fans even started road racing by taking inspiration from this Anime. This is because the Anime is filled with so many intense racing scenes despite the overall plot being simple. This Anime itself shows the crazy love Watanabe Wataru has for this particular sports which even inspired him to start his own cycling team based on the name of the series.
Now if we look back at the situation and take the Main character of the series “Onoda sakamichi” into consideration. He is a guy who is typical otaku, in high-school he ends up joining the cycling club instead of finding members for Anime club but as the story progresses he starts developing love for this sports and eventually the will to race and win the race awakens in him.
If you consider his character and Watanabe wataru at the same time you will find that Onoda sakamichi is Watanabe wataru himself. The author drew the Main character by imaging himself in that situation and this particular post itself is a proof to prove that point. His love for this sport forced him to create this team. So all we can do is wish him all the best for his work with the series and the team and wish that he continues to inspire hearts of people in similar way!
