Kabaneri of the iron fortress episode 2 review – So as you guys are aware of the fact that this season lots of epic anime made their debut, out of which Kabaneri of the iron fortress was one of the series. The first episode was overwhelmingly popular which got everyone hyped and the second episode is in fact even better than the first episode. The credit for making the episode even better than the first one, goes to Mumei, the badass female character of the series and when i watched this episode she became my favourite to the point that she became my waifu!!
As the world is in the middle of an industrial revolution, a monster appears that cannot be defeated unless its heart, which is protected by a layer of iron, is pierced. By infecting humans with its bite, the monster can create aggressive and undead creatures known as Kabane. On the island Hinomoto, located in the far east, people have built stations to shelter themselves from these creatures. People access the station, as well as transport wares between them, with the help of a locomotive running on steam, called Hayajiro. Ikoma, a boy who lives in the Aragane station and helps to build Hayajiro, creates his own weapon called Tsuranukizutsu in order to defeat the creatures. One day, as he waits for an opportunity to use his weapon, he meets a girl named Mumei, who is excused from the mandatory Kabane inspection. During the night, Ikoma meets Mumei again as he sees Hayajiro going out of control. The staff on the locomotive has turned into the creatures. The station, now under attack by Kabane, is the opportunity Ikoma has been looking for.

Kabaneri of the iron fortress episode 2 review
As you all know that the first episode of the series ends with Ikoma defeating Kabane with his weapon “The Piercing gun.” While in that fight he get bitten by the Kabane, as our main character is pretty smart he finds the way of stopping the transformation, since when a human gets bitten by Kabane he becomes one of them and our hero Ikoma stops that transformation. Second episode of the series shows the events after that, Ikoma’s friend Takumi came to look for him, as he saw Ikoma standing besides the Kabane he pretty much understood that Ikoma defeated Kabane.
Ikoma on the other hand excitedly tells him that how his weapon works and how he defeated the Kabane, after hearing that they both rejoice for a moment and then his friend asks are you ok? Ikoma replies that he was bitten by the Kabane but he stopped the transformation and now he is alright, and also tells him that this give us hope, that people can be saved once bitten by the Kabane. Hearing this Takumi gets a little worried.
In the meantime the scene moves towards the station where people are all waiting and discussing on how they reach the iron locomotive and among them some were really getting impatient and were not listening to Ayame at all.
That’s when Mumei appears, in her fighting attire. While she taunts people that – “are you still talking? if this discussion takes any long time then there will be sunrise before we know it.” She gives pretty good beating to an adult at that time when after hearing her words he says we don’t need kids opinion and touches her. From here onwards Mumei takes the lead, and she asks – “that someone among these people can drive the locomotive?” and again another new character comes forward and she is a girl named Yukina.
Mumei agrees to create a diversion so that people can be evacuated to the Iron locomotive. She jumps right in between of all the Kabanes without any single shed of fear and makes them follow her so the people can be easily evacuated. After that she takes care of all the Kabane that was after her and defeats them one by one. In the meantime Ikoma and his friends arrives at the locomotive from the different location, as the two of them wanted to get on the train, his friend got a place without any problem but as suspected no one was letting Ikoma ride as people were fearing that he was Kabane (due to the incident in the episode 1) but Mumei testifies for him that he is not Kabane because of which he gets to ride the train, but as a result she finds out that Ikoma stopped the Kabane transformation.
The train moves but on the way get attacked by Kabane, Ikoma saves people with his piercing gun by defeating one Kabane but in fact he loose all the trust, because the people saw the glowing iron shield on his chest, that is the shield which only Kabane posses. Since none of the people were aware of the fact that Ikoma was bitten by the Kabane and stopped the transformation people began to fear him as a result he was thrown out of the train. Even though he was thrown out of the train he continues to fight to save the people and makes way for them so that train can move forward safely. His friend Takumi could not look at the fact that he is abandoned by the fellow humans he tried to save till the end. So he moves forward to help him and throws a rope which Ikoma can grab and climb on the train, the people on the train try to stop Takumi and Ikoma also doesn’t grab the train, yet Mumei steps forward and helps him.
Once saved, he is told to commit suicide by Kurusu because but Mumei stops them and reveals the shocking fact. She says – “He is not a human nor Kabane” and she removes her shirt and at her back was also a glowing iron shield which only Kabane posses which proved the fact that she was bitten by Kabane but stopped the transformation at the last moment “We are Kabaneri, the people between Human and Kabane.” This is where the episode ends.
In my opinion Kabaneri of the iron fortress episode 2 was so epic that i don’t have words to describe its awesomeness and it was like the episode was saying “This is just a start.”
The fight scenes are 5/5 totally epic and Mumei, you girl rock!! Have no words to define her badassness. One thing i like about her that she is totally cool and calm and always keeps her girly attitude even when she is fighting, In terms of maintaining girly attitude while fighting, Erza from Fairy tail and Levy from Black Lagoon and Mikasa from the Attack of the Titan are nothing in front of her. She even defeats the Kabane like nothing happened, the look on her face is like she is taking walk from the park.
The quality of the series will increase even more if they made Ikoma skilled in fighting techniques. The only down point of this series is that the side characters or background characters are too dumb. Everyone in the Anime knows that it takes few minutes for a human to transform into Kabane once he gets bitten, Ikoma was termed as Kabane they put him in the jail in the morning (according to timeline of the series) to se he is Kabane or not, the Kabane attacked the village at night, If Ikoma was Kabane he would have transformed into Kabane during this time period yet he didn’t transformed and still people are calling him Kabane. I was like – what the hell is this? Moreover Kurusu got on my nerves in this episode as he was acting that he knows everything and not was not even giving a single chance to Ikoma so he can speak.
Well anyways aside from the dumbness of the people and over ego of Kurusu. This episode was totally epic, they gave a perfect chance for Mumei to shine as well as main character Ikoma showed some great determination when he said – “being saved by someone you threw away, I hope you live with this shame for the rest of your lives, i will laugh on you all from the other world!” this is not something an MC will say, typically an MC would say something like “I’m glad I could save you in the end.” He’s f**king badass.
As i mentioned earlier that i got no words to explain the greatness and epicness of this episode. But this episode has got me super hyped for the next episode because of such epic cliffhanger.
