Ushio to Tora Anime Complete Review

A classic action series came back to like thanks to those people who thought of making a remake of Ushio to Tora Anime. I still remember that two years ago i read Ushio to Tora Manga for the first time and it fascinated me so much that i spend entire night reading it. The story of Ushio to Tora greatly focuses on the two main characters of this series a Middle school sophomore “Aotsuki Ushio” and “Tora.”

Ushio a normal middle school kid was born in family of priest, his father use to always tell us about the origins of his family and their mission. Among those stories, there was one story which said – ” 500 years ago, A great Youkai once breaked havoc into this land. A Samurai with a spear challenged him and sealed into rock, he build the temple around that rock (Which is now Ushio’s home) to keep watch over that Youkai.”

Ushio’s family had a strict rule, that whatever happens never open the underground passage way and release the Youkai. Ushio never believed these stories, but one day by cleaning the storage he finds that underground passage way and goes to see whats’s inside and that’s where he meets that Youkai Tora who was pierced with a spear known as beast spear. Tora was unable to move because he sealed with spear, Ushio releases Tora and becomes the wielder of beast spear and together they defeat all the Youkai’s who sides with Hakumen No Mono.

Basically that’s the summary of the entire story of Ushio to Tora, But what’s makes this story a masterpiece? Well, the answer is simple, its the execution. I already mentioned that i have been reading Manga before this remake came out and when i watched the Anime, the clear difference that was visible to me the moment i compared Anime and Manga was that the Anime was only focusing on the main part that was relevant to the story. What i mean is it constantly keeps you highly excited because of which it quickly covers the story which would have taken nearly 100 episodes to complete.

Ushio to Tora Gurren vs Hyou
Ushio to Tora Gurren vs Hyou

Well am not saying that this is a plus point of the series but, in fact the quick coverage of plot acts like a double edge sword, meaning its both good and bad for Ushio to Tora Anime. Because of which it misses the perfect 10 on 10 score. On the contrary the excellent story and proper execution makes Ushio to Tora Anime a masterpiece despite possessing this double edge sword. This Anime actually shows that today’s generation need more Anime shows like this which has a high quality of story.

Action Scenes

The Action scenes are well executed which keeps you excited and are capable of giving you goosebumps whenever you watch them. One of the best thing of Ushio to Tora is that they shows us no one is capable of becoming and overpower being, even if you’re the strongest there has to be some limit or weakness to your strength. Hakumen No Mono is the strongest and the final antagonist of the series but he doesn’t seems like an overpowered antagonist and gives you a feeling that its easy to defeat him with efforts.

The typical action strategy for shounen anime series is – If your series has an overpowered antagonist the only way to deafeat that enemy is by training and gaining more strength because of which the protagonist will eventually end up overpowering it. The second strategy is miracle power up, Ushio to Tora doesn’t follow these two patterns and in fact applies a little logic which eventually answers all the question regarding the overall plot that you have in mind.

Romance, Cute and Funny Scenes and Lots of Feels

Ushio to Tora - Comedy Scene
Ushio to Tora – Comedy Scene

Yes, Ushio to Tora comes packed with all these things. There are lot of cute and funny scenes in Ushio to Tora, especially that consisting of Mayuko (the female supporting character who is actually a female protagonist) . Romance is also there but lets just say that it not that much interesting. You see a typical couple Aotsuki Ushio and Nakamura Asako (Ushio’s friend) well they fight a lot but on the other side they love each other a lot and are unable to convey their feelings to each other.

Although Ushio conveys his feelings manytimes in the Anime but he doesn’t say it in front of her and Nakamura Asako is like that too! On the other hand you get to see an unconventional relationship too, Mayuko and Tora ! Yest friends, Mayuko falls in love with Tora whose actually a beast.

Talking about feels, yes, the feels in Ushio to Tora are enough to make you go on long feel trip. The sad scenes are extremely sad and it hits right in the feels. Sometimes you will feel enraged about what Hakumen No Mono did and will feel sad about the sufferings that character has to go through because of him.

Wrapping up

Ushio to Tora Anime is not the type of Anime that you can give the explanation of all its awesomeness in mere thousand words. Honestly saying, even this thousand words review feels that its one of the shortest review i have written. Ushio to Tora gives who so much that you find it difficult to explain everything and now its pretty much same thing happening with me.

If i get even one person to be the fan of Ushio to Tora Anime through this review then i think i’ll be satisfied. Because despite its awesome story, and awesome plot execution the Anime series is highly underrated, its an unfortunate gesture and┬áthis Anime is not capable of such gesture. I’ve already said and I’ll say it again Animes like Ushio to Tora are dying breed!
