Kimi no na wa is first Non-Miyazaki Anime Movie to reach 10 Billion Yen

Kimi No Na Wa – Makoto Shinkai’s latest movie named “Kimi No Na Wa” also known as “Your name?” maintained its 1st ranking on this fourth week and went past beyond 9 billion yen and has earned 9.1 billion yen on Monday i.e $89 Million USD and has sold 6.98 Million tickets after 24 days in theater.

As of now its projected as the first anime movie that can earn over 10 Billion Yen i.e $98 Million USD, since the year 2013 and the first anime film not made by Studio Ghibli or the world renowned director Miyazaki Hayao to achieve this kind of feat ever.

Kimi no na wa – success

Miyazaki’s film named “Kaze Tachinu” or also known as “The wind rises,” earned 12.2 Billion Yen which approximately equals to $123.5 Million USD at a time. And Kimi No Na Wa Movie (Your Name? Movie) is expected to achieve the same kind of feat.

Regardless of that the movie has now surpassed distriutor’s “TOHO” 6 Billion yen i.e $59 Million USD Projection for the film and the earning is expected to rise.

So far the only movies to reach 10 Billion Yen and earn over that are Studio Ghibli’s and Miyazaki’s Kaze Tachinu (The wind rises), Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo and Princess Mononoke.

Rest of the Movies

A Silent Voice or Koe No Katachi anime film adaptation done by Kyoto Animation, Opened on 17th September in Japan on 121 Screens and its on rank 2 with Kimi No Na Wa maintaining the first rank.

Shigatsu wa kimi no uso live action film fell from 3rd rank to 5th rank! The film opened in japan on 10th September on 294 screens and its projected to earn 1.5 Billion yen which equals to $15 Million USD.

Shin Godzilla fell from 5th rank to 6th ran in its 8th week, As of 6th September the film sold more than 4.2 Million tickets which is highest among the Godzilla films made in Heisei era. As of 4th September the film has earned over 6 Billion Yen which in USD becomes US$58.18 Million in 28 days since its 29th July Opening.

Aozora yell (yell from the blue sky) live action film fell of the ranking in its fifth weekend.
