First allow me to explain how Mafuba works, this will make clear to speculate the answer for the question regarding Goku’s death? As we all aware of the fact that Mafuba is a sealing technique and using that technique a person can be sealed inside a container, After that to finish or close the seal its important to close the container and seal it with a talisman otherwise the technique will be nullified.

Lets go back to Dragon ball to find the answer – Mafuba actually need huge amount of Ki, So when Master Roshi’s master Mutaito used the technique on King Piccolo and sealed him he died. The reason for his death was – “He died because of using Mafuba,” but in reality its something different.

What i think that King Piccolo was too strong for Mutaito hence when he used the technique he used all of his Ki along with his life energy to seal him. That’s the reason he died. It becomes evident when Master Roshi revealed that his master disappeared for years after he was defeated by King Piccolo and then came back with sealing technique Mafuba.

Mafuba is not a technique you can learn with just one try you need to practice countless time before you can perfect it and hence it become clear that, practicing Mafuba with a weaker opponent won’t result in death. This is why Goku did not die while he was practicing. Same thing is with Tien who practiced Mafuba to seal king piccolo after he was broken out of Jar.

More evidence on the theory

When Tien used the technique on King Piccolo it was stopped before it could approach king piccolo that’s why he did not die and he had some impact left on his body. Master Roshi died because King Piccolo was too strong for him so he used his life energy along with his entire Ki but before he could seal King Piccolo the Jar was destroyed and that’s why Master roshi died without sealing him.

Finally Kami used the technique to seal Piccolo in the world tournament, however Piccolo used the same technique to counter Kami’s technique and sealed him in the bottle but he did not die. I assume the reason for that was Kami and Piccolo are one being! So even if Kami is sealed inside the bottle he is alive. Also as to why Mafuba did not make piccolo weaker just like it did to Tien is because Piccolo was stronger than Kami at that time.

So will Goku die from using Mafuba?

It becomes clear that to use Mafuba a huge amount of Ki is needed if it is use on a stronger opponent and if that’s not enough it uses the life energy. So practicing it with weaker opponent or using it on weaker opponent won’t result in Goku’s death but Goku Black and Zamasu are both strong, If Goku used it on one of them he might get weaker but if he use the technique to seal other person too he will die. Goku Black is stronger than Goku and if you add immortal Zamasu with it, they are not the opponent that Goku can handle.
