Hayao Miyazaki starred in a AI CGI Animation presentation on November 13th, about his upcoming CG Anime film “Kemushi No Boro” on NHK titled as “Owaranai Hito – Miyazaki Hayao” (The man who is not done – Hayao Miyazaki). The 50 minutes documentary included a scene where Hayao Miyazaki and former Ghibli Producer Toshio suzuki attended a CG Animation presentation by CGI Team at “Dwango Artificial Intelligence” facility.
Hayao Miyazaki – Opinion on AI CGI Animation
The presentation was led by president of “Dwango Artificial Intelligence facility,” Nobuo Kawakami, a producer-in-training at Studio Ghibli and board director at Hideaki Anno’s Studio Khara.
The presentation shows recent experiments done with an animation program, that learns via artificial intelligence. A human model was used and the program learned to make it move forward at a rapid rate while ignoring the concepts like “pain.” The end result was a zombie like creature which was unsettling, as a result Miyazaki immediately repulsed calling, the AI CGI Animation as an “insult to life itself!”

Miyazaki continued to gives his views on the presentation and the animation with a lack of empathy with a reference of a physically disabled friend. As we are aware of the fact that Hayao Miyazaki is not a shy person when it comes to sharing his views on technology and expressing his distaste for technology. He even confessed that he didn’t even owned a computer in 2008.
Miyazaki made it quite clear previously that he doesn’t think that hand drawn animation is better than CG Animation, but he thinks that the former animation is dying out because the current animators are not talented. Earlier Hayao Miyazaki announced that he will be retiring but later, he announced that he will continue making short animations for Studio Ghibli Museum in Tokyo.
