The dragon dentist or Ryuu no haisha, is the anime which i was anxiously waiting for ever since i watched the trailer. What made me curious towards it was the weird but exciting concept of the anime and the dragon dentist episode 1 (Ryuu no haisha episode 1) made me even more curious.
One thing i liked about this anime that it has something similar to the anime Kill la Kill, i can’t figure out what is the similarity but the animation style is exactly similar, however that is not the similarity which i am pointing out it has to do with the overall concept or story of the anime that makes me feel that this anime is similar to Kill la Kill.
The story takes place in Dragon Country. Nonoko is a newly appointed dentist and her mission is to protect the dragon, the guardian of the country, from tooth-cavity bacteria.
One day, amid increasingly fierce battles with the neighboring country, Nonoko finds on the dragon’s tooth an unconscious boy soldier from the enemy country. His name is Bell, and he has been resurrected from inside the tooth by the dragon—a supernatural phenomenon that legend says occurs before a major disaster. As Nonoko and Bell go through a series of fierce battles, they eventually learn to accept their fate.

Ryuu no Haisha : The dragon dentist episode 1 Review
For those reading this review if you have read the synopsis of the review, then you will get the basic overview of the series. However the truth is the series is far more complicated than it seems. The story takes place in an alternate world where fantasy and reality lives in harmony but at the same time the two different worlds are at war with each other.
The first episode of the series stick to the synopsis however what makes episode complicated to understand is the cause behind the war that takes place between the two worlds. From the episode i can make a rough estimation that The dragon dentist are the communities living on the tooth of Dragons and their job is to clear out the cavities and all the germs that causes the cavities. However, this job may sound as a peaceful thing but its not that peaceful because these dragon dentist put their life on the line to fight the cavity creating germs which almost looks like an alien species. They are working always looking forward to their deaths.
This concept itself sounds interesting and weird, the dragon dentists or ryuu no haisha community lives on the tooth of the dragon that always flies in the sky and hence people living on the ground and people living on the tooth of a dragon becomes the civilians of two distinct world despite being from the same world. what i didn’t understand about this episodes, that why these two civilian communities are at war with each other, the entire episode i thought that the community living on the ground fears the community of the dragon dentist as a potential threat of world destruction but that doesn’t seem to be the case here because the end of the first episode changes the entire thing.
One fellow members from the Dragon dentist or Ryuu no haisha community becomes the antagonist of the series by becoming the alien cavity species and pledges to wage war at the same time in that catastrophe the two main lead characters of the series falls on the ground from the Dragon tooth. If you read the synopsis, they did mentioned that the character named bell was resurrected inside the dragon tooth and before that he was an army officer from the enemy state and at the end he fell down from the Dragon tooth along with Nonoko and tooth, the officers from the enemy states sees that and says ‘everything’s according to plan.’
Now i am here wondering what’s the motive of the people living on the ground, why the would go on the war? and ‘Bell’s resurrection’ through dragon tooth was something they planned from the beginning without bell knowing it? This cliffhanger was quite interesting and at the same time it made me curious about the next episode.
The art and animation and fight scenes execution.
The art is quite better than what i expected it to be, but as i mentioned earlier i.e at the start of this article, the animation style is quite similar to Kill la Kill anime series. The fight scenes too are mix of fantasy and modern warfare. So far the episode was execution was ‘OK,’ although at first it felt like the episode had less impact but as the episode progressed it build the curiosity and the end was enough to convince me that yes, i should continue the series for a while and see that its good or bad.
The new concept this anime is trying to introduce is quite interesting although for now i don’t see something that will make this anime unique and great thing to watch. Its just that the concept makes this anime stand out from the regular series which is enough to grab the attention and make people curious enough so they can stick to the anime for a while.
Overall episode rating – 3.9/5
